Ethylene Oxide
Ethylene oxide is a strong sterilant used in healthcare to make sure medical devices and materials are safe. It can be used with many different types of medical devices, including metals, plastics and rubber. Ethylene oxide is also used to sterilise medicines, packaging and combi-products.
It works well at low temperatures, sterilising many plastic and other temperature-sensitive devices. It also penetrates packaging and reaches the inside of complex medical devices. It can be used to sterilise large numbers of devices at once.
Ethylene oxide is also used to make other products safe from bacteria. These include spices, cosmetics, laboratory materials and packaging.
